So, I am finally posting a blog on here about our little man, Colton. Thankfully, Clint has posted some about the new addition to our family, but he has changed so much since the last post! We love being parents so far - it is so awesome! Here are just a few of my favorite pics of our sweet boy.

Christmas in Arizona! 70 degrees... sunny... I can't imagine a nicer place to have the Christmas Holiday. We will post pictures soon - but words FIRST. This has been a great Christmas! We have been able to spend time with family, enjoy gifting to each other, sing, play games, watch movies, and NO WORK! I think it has been especially great for Ashley to prepare for the final Push (pun intended) of the Pregnancy.

Among the great gifts I received - a DVD that highlights Fatherly Examples from famous LDS celebrities and authorities. I am looking forward to watching that today. This pregnancy has got me thinking a lot about my priorities and preparing for the little man has definitely made me think about what it will take to be a great father!

Mostly, we have spent the time pondering our Great Father's example of love in gifting to us the atonement through his Son. What a sublime gift to have the opportunity to start over... to change... to become something, someone new! To know that while I will be an imperfect father, and a less than perfect example for my son, I can teach him about the atonement, and we can work toward perfection together - through repentance, faith, and obedience to the commandments of our Lord.

Looking forward to our anniversary (4 years! CRAZY!) on the 29th! (Same as Mom and Dad)

So, it's probably about time we share our news with everyone - I am pregnant! I am 4 months and one week pregnant, and we are so excited to start our family! We are actually going to find out the gender of our baby this week, so check back to see our next update.

World TaeKwonDo Championships

I just wanted to brag on Clint a little bit. He has been training hard for the last few months to prepare for the BIG TOURNAMENT! For the last few days, Clint has been participating in the TaeKwonDo World Championships. He competed in the Lvl. 4 Third Degree Black Belt Men Division (The Highest Ranking 3rd Degrees).

He came home with the Gold Medal in Traditional Forms, the Gold Medal in FreeStyle Forms, and the Gold Medal in Sparring.

One of the great things about being a Martial Arts Instructor is that you get to work with kids everyday! And sometimes there is just a jewel of a moment where they say the darndest, funniest stuff...

Part of the test for each student to advance to their next rank is an oral exam - they must answer specific questions about Taekwondo, its origin, their rank, instructors, etc... so I asked one of them last night, "Where does Taekwondo come from?" without a moments hesitation is Yelled, "CANADA sir!" ... I couldn't help myself, I giggled a little, and corrected him, "It's Korea." To which he immediately qualified, "I KNEW it started with a "C" sir!"

Korea may not, but Cute sure does - hence the story.

The Crusty Stuff

Well, considering the fact that it has been months since my last post, I think it's about time for an update. Everything is going well for us right now in MS. Spring is here, and I love the weather (Now I just need to get my allergies to cooperate so I can really enjoy it!) Work is staying busy for both of us, but especially Clint. He has been working especially hard to get word out about the Taekwondo school and some of the deals they have going on. For those of you who don't already know, I am actually taking Taekwondo right now and I am getting ready to test for my green belt. This has been a great goal for me because it is totally challenging and out of my comfort zone. It is also very rewarding, and it is so fun to see Clint in action as he teaches at the school. He is such a natural and maintains a discipline that my mentor teachers would have been proud of at BYU. Anyway, I have posted a picture of one of their latest flyers - for those of you who don't know, another Karate Kid movie is going to be coming out this summer.

Let's see...what else is new. Oh, I am working on some crafty projects for the summer. I am knitting an afghan for our couch right now and since I got a sewing machine for my birthday I have plans to sew some throw pillows for our couch as well. I'm pretty excited - I'll post pics once I have something to show. Oh, I bought some new glasses recently, which has come in handy during allergy season when I can't always wear contacts. And Darby Jane, we are now twins! I didn't realize our glasses were so similar! Here is a picture of the new look.

Just as a little side note, I had a pretty funny conversation with some coworkers during my lunch break recently. We were talking about good food, and I complimented one of our cooks on the great fried chicken she had made for lunch that day. When people make fried chicken around here, they do not mess around! She was pretty excited that I had actually eaten lunch on fried chicken day, (I rarely do) and she had me laughing as she talked about amazed she is that I bring apples and carrots and other healthy foods for snacks. She's already told me that she can't get excited about those healthy foods - it's got to be nice and greasy for her to want to eat it! (Yuck!) But then, she was talking about what I'm going to let my future kids eat and not eat. "I bet you're kids won't even know what fried chicken is!" she said. "If they see someone eating it and ask what it is, you'll say, 'Oh, don't look at that honey, it's nothing you need to worry about,' and then you will change the subject quick before they are tempted by the crust on that chicken!" I just about died laughing at that. Yep- they pretty much have me figured out here!

No Excuse

So, I know that I have no excuse for leaving everyone hanging for months wondering what we have been up to. Don't worry, I won't try to make one up. But thank you, Crystal, for encouraging me to write something of an update on our blog. Clint and are staying busy - Clint has been especially busy at the Taekwondo school now that he is the sole manager there. He is working hard to make sales and better organize the school, and he is doing a great job. I am still working as an Administrative Assistant at The Nichols Center nursing home, and it has been a good experience for me. I enjoy working with the residents, and the office manager has given me a lot more responsibility in the office. I definitely don't get bored anymore, and I think I am grateful for that...hee,hee. Anyway, I also recently started taking Taekwondo in December so that I can better support Clint in his career and learn some sweet self defense moves as well. I am having fun, making friends, and I will possibly be testing for my yellow belt next week. Let's see, Clint and I love our new apartment, and I am FINALLY getting our second room cleaned out so that we can use it for more than just storage. Who knows - I might make it into a craft room. Well, I have to go but I just wanted everyone to know that Clint and I are enjoying life!

International TaeKwonDo Alliance State Championships!

Last weekend, Clint competed at the ITA State Championships in Meridian, MS. He brought home a Gold Medal in Traditional Forms and a Gold Medal in Traditional Freedesign Forms.

Clint had some great sparring matches as well, and made it to the final round where, unfornately, he "struck out" by kicking his opponent in the face... (That is ILLEGAL) So he brought home a Silver Medal in Sparring

Sam (Clint's younger brother) also competed at the tournament and did well in his division bringing home a Gold and Silver Medal as well!

Congratulations to both of them!

Funny Mississippi Quotes of the Day

So, yesterday I was calling some businesses to find out about job openings. I had some pretty funny conversations, so I thought I would share a few.

1. I called a nursing home to ask about job openings. After she told me to come pick up an application, I asked for the business' address. She replied, "We are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Come by anytime." I tried to ask her again, speaking more slowly and clearly. This time she replied, "The jobs we have available are for CNAs, receptionists, and custodial." I was trying hard not to laugh when I asked her where the business was located yet again, just for the heck of it. She did not disappoint me with her random answer. "You just come up to the front desk and we will give you an application." Finally, I asked her one final time. This time, she got it. "Oh, we are right by the airport." At that point, I thanked her and went to look up the address on Mapquest. But I was really tempted to ask her if she was a resident of the home or the receptionist - because she honestly didn't hear my question the first four times I asked! Ah, good times.

2. I called a business asking about job openings, and the receptionist replied, "How should I know? I just answer the phone!"

As Mom Asay says, "Only in Mississippi!"

By the way, I got a job offer yesterday as a receptionist for a nursing home that is close to here. I am very excited and grateful for the offer, despite the fact that it doesn't pay well. I will have to decide whether or not I accept it by Monday.

California Trip

I know that this is not super recent, but I wanted to post these fun pictures. After Clint graduated, we went to California to hang out with his sister Amelia and her family. We had a blast! Here are some pics from the trip.

Airport Highlights...We have some good times at the airport

So, we found out that United has a "red carpet" for their first class passengers. Imagine this...you are waiting with a crowd of people to board a plane, and the United employee starts calling groups to go through the ticket area. "Gold Group, now boarding in our red carpet line... Silver Group, now boarding in our red line...Group A, now boarding...don't you dare try to walk in the red carpet line..." I know it's an exaggeration, but not much of one. Clint and I could not stop laughing as we watched the first class passengers walk on the two-foot-square red carpet before boarding the plane. If I were a first class passenger, I would be ticked that the extra money I paid for a plane ticket was going towards red carpets! I wish Brian Reagan was on our flight - this would definitely have given him some fuel for his next comedy act. Oh, and we tried some great sourdough bread in the San Francisco airport. Here is the baguette we got "to go" before our flight.

These pics show a few highlights from our trip. Austin and Darby are both on swim team this year, and so we were able to watch them practice. Also, Clint had his first cavity filled by Dennis while we were there, and I got to watch the procedure. It was so cool seeing Clint's cavity up close...it was huge!

Amelia is a Young Women's leader right now, and she thought of a cool idea for a church service project - "Extreme Church Makeover", with team shirts and everything. I went to the activity, and it was alot of fun. Honestly, if you just saw these big smiles you never would guess that these kids were at a service project.

Some of the amazing food we had on this trip. Fish with shallots, beef brisket with salt lick barbeque sauce, pistachio pudding, and the best turkey, bacon, guacamole sandwich I have ever had.

Clint liked the food so much at one restaurant that he licked his plate clean, and was very disappointed when there wasn't anything left to lick.

That was our trip! Okay, and by the way, can someone tell me how to get rid of all the blank space in my posts. Sorry...I'm a little technologically challenged.

So, I just had to write about my experience being pulled over this morning. I woke up and drove Clint over to pick up the moving truck for our move to Mississippi. On my way back home, I noticed that a cop was following me pretty closely. I checked to make sure I was going the speed limit (I was), but I still looked back to see him turn his lights on. He pulled me over, and I was a little nervous because I figured that he knew our registration just expired and was going to ticket me. (Sidenote: Clint and I also knew our registration just expired, but we are selling our car tomorrow and our friends will have to pay for registration fees again no matter what). He told me that he was checking license plates today and it came up that our registration and insurance had just expired and asked for all the paperwork. When he got my driver's license, he said, "You know, you are one of the few people who actually takes a good driver's license picture." I thanked him and wanted to laugh at the thought of being photogenic, because at the moment I was wearing sweats, striped socks, and my hair was sticking out in all directions. Anyway, when I explained the registration situation the officer was super understanding. "Of course you don't want to pay an extra $150 to the government when you're going to sell it. They'll get their money from the new people who buy it. Have a nice day!" Yeah - no tickets today! I feel very blessed!
Oh - by the way, I realize that I haven't written in months and I have so much to catch up on. Don't worry - more posts to come...soon.

My Birthday

So, about a week ago I turned 23. It was a great birthday, especially because I have such an awesome husband who made it special. I woke up to a wonderful French toast breakfast before work, and after work I came home to a clean house and an awesome homeade pizza for dinner. There was more to the day, but I just had to write to say that I have such an awesome husband! Clint is super thoughtful, not just on my birthday, and he has been so supportive of me with my job and everything else that is going on. Thanks babe!

Matchmaker, Matchmaker

So, I am looking for some advice. Since Clint is serving in the single's ward bishopric, I've been asked to be in charge of the Datebox for the ward. Basically, I plan fun group dates for people in the ward to go on. If people want to go on the date, they put their name in the Datebox. Then, I hook them up for group dates that Clint and I get to go on too. It's been really fun so far, but I need some ideas. Does anyone have any great ideas for cheap group dates you can do in the winter? Please let me know if you do.

United We Fall...

Our trip to California was terrific! We had a wonderful time with Amelia and Dennis, Austin and Darby, Nate and Erica - The food was excellent and the games were fun! We are so grateful to have been able to stay for 4 (+2) days! +2?! You ask... yes, PLUS 2. And not by our own design... That was all thanks to... NOEL.

Allow us to explain...

As I said the trip was wonderful! We had a BALL! And Then we TRIED to catch our plane on Sunday... But we were foiled as I said by, NOEL.

SUNDAY
We got the airport in Modesto to fly out on Sunday about 25 minutes prior to our scheduled flight time. This was normally no problem since the airport is tiny and has only one prop-job running to and fro from the San Fran. Airport all day...

Well, we walk in and find that there is no one at the ticketing desk, and the people are starting to move through security and get to where they can board the plane - Again, no real problem, the distance from the desk where we were standing to our seats on the plane was maybe 30 yards. And yet... no one was coming to help us at the desk. We got some very pleasant looks from the security officers sitting in their break-room drinking hot coacoa, but no one working for UNITED AIRLINES was around to give us our boarding passes or check our bag. So we walked over and tried to get some attention, but instead got only strange looks from the lady (NOEL) taking tickets from the now boarding passangers. So we said, "Hey! We are here! We NEED TO GET ON THAT PLANE, THE ONE SITTING RIGHT THERE ON THE TARMAK!" And she said, "Oh, too bad. You are too late." Too Late? TOO LATE?! What?! "Yes, you should have been here 40 minutes ago." (There was a sign AT THE COUNTER saying you should be there 30 minutes prior to your flight - but of course that was no where on our itinarary or anything, just at the airport.) I guess they same person who took boarding passes, also ran security, boarded passengers and flew the plane... So we watched as our plane was boarded, taxied, and took-off...

Then we waited for NOEL... ;)

Who gave us a look like, "Oh, Crap." and then ran to the Bathroom. (Where she never came out.)

So another guy came in from loading the luggage, who clearly had no idea what was going on and asked, "And how are we helping you today?" ... "You're not. We were supposed to be on that plane." "Oh..." He replied, a little taken back by the fact we were not on the plane. "Well, lets get you guys taken care of."

Oh the jokes that where shared during the ride home...

"Noel, where is your Christmas Spirit?!" "No-el, does that stand for No Love?!"

So we got scheduled for a flight the next day and enjoyed another evening with Amelia and Dennis. (When we returned, Austin informed us that Darby had been praying we would be able to stay longer... thank you Darby:)

MONDAY

We got up, and had a nice morning... until we noticed the weather outside. FOG. And not just a light cloud of condensation on the ground... it was like being inside a black thunderstorm cloud - not being able to see more than 20 feet around the house. Hoping that the fog was isolated to Amelia and Dennis' lot, we drove out the the airport to get on our flight (2 hours before it was supposed to take off). CANCELLED DUE TO FOG... There was, however, a plane coming in and preparing to return to San Francisco. So we asked when that would be leaving. "15 minutes" "Well, can we get on that one?" "Sure! We can get two of you on board." At this point, Nate looked at the sign on the wall (The big 30 minute sign) "The Irony." So while we couldn't board a plane because we were 25 minutes before it, Nate and Erica could get their tickets changed, get through security, and get boarded with time to spare! ... gr... NOEL.

Ashley and I were scheduled for the next flight, (Which was cancelled) leaving us stuck in Modesto for another day... So we enjoyed a nice evening with Amelia and Dennis until the phone rang...

It was Nate and Erica. "You are not going to believe this." "Believe what?" We asked. "We couldn't land in Idaho, it is Fogged Over..." "Well where are you?" "SALT LAKE CITY!" yes, salt lake, (Which is where Ashley and I wanted to be in the first place... and it so happened that they arrived in Salt Lake at the exact time that we were supposed to! The Irony.

They were able to get a shuttle to Ruxburg and got home about 3 am.

Meanwhile, Ashley and I were still in Modesto.

TUESDAY

We got up, saw the weather was good, and got the airport early to get on another flight. Got it, Got Out, Got to San Francisco.

Then we got to the gate for our flight to leave for Utah. They scanned our tickets. RED LIGHT. Scanned them again. RED LIGHT. By this time Ashley and I are looking at each other thinking, "No, Please! JUST GET US HOME!" Scanned again... GREEN LIGHT! We got on the flight, only to sit next to some 6 year old who gave us the storyline (His version at least) of "Snakes on a Plane." Insisting that Everyone on the plane died, except the pilot. There is a pleasant thought.

Fortunately there were no snakes on our plane, (Only the 6 year old's little sister who enjoyed the planeride like a rollar coaster and screamed the whole way).

We are home.

It is good to be home.

So, when people come to you and ask for service this holiday season, please remember Noel. And realize that your decision can have far reaching consequences. Just because you want to go home early, or be lazy is no reason to make others suffer.

A New Years Goal Actually Reached!

So, Clint and I just finished one of our New Years goals for this year, (and it is probably the first time I have actually accomplished one of my New Years Resolutions)! We had a goal to index 5,000 names by the end of this year on family search indexing, and we just finished 5,008! For those of you who don't know, family search indexing is basically copying documents into a database so that people can access those documents when they do their family history work. It is actually fun to do and it's really easy to get started...if anyone want's to know how, let me know and I'll give you a crash course!

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME.

As I look back on life, I am impressed with how much humor can be found in every situation... My gift to you all this year is to share some of the humor I've found over the last few years in the form of quotes. So here I have thrown down a couple of my favorite quotes from famous people, and people who should be:

We're back from Mississippi! And I must say the thing that I will miss the most about being away from Provo is not fearing for my life everytime I drive in this crazy town...

As it turns out, coming out to Mississippi has turned out to be a life changing experience. We came so that I could spend some time working at a local Physical Therapy clinic and get some experience to throw down on my applications for PT school. At the same time, I've been able to train with my Instructor, Mr. Griffin at the TaeKwonDo School. Some of you may know that I have been exploring the idea of opening a Martial Arts school some day, and well, that Future is near...

Yes, we have decided on a different career path. I will be opening my own Tae Kwon Do academy with Mr. Griffin.

I've got a year to finish up my degree at BYU (And get back my "Fighting Figure" back ;) and then we will be returning to MS for me to train and work the business side of the TKD Academy here in Jackson, then we will look for a location for my own school, (Suggestions?... Anyone..?) We will be looking at various locations in the US.

This is all a little un-expected but we are surely excited about it! Be back to Utah very soon! And hopefully they haven't given away our apartment... See you all soon!

In Mississippi

So, right now Clint and I are in Mississippi so that Clint can have some experience working with a physical therapist here. We are living with Clint's parents and brother for the six weeks that we're here, and we are having a blast so far. I think that I'm finally getting used to the humidity!hee,hee.
The highlight of the day today was when Clint and I were at the mall. A sales associate at one store with a strong Southern accent was taking me back to the dressing rooms. "I just have to tell you that you have the cutest accent!" she said to me. "Where are you from?" I had to laugh as I told her that I was from Arizona, and I thought that she had a great accent. "Me... I don't have an accent!" she laughed and walked away. It was pretty funny - I never thought that I had an accent until I came to the South.

Graduation

So, I just had to write to say that I am now officially done with school! It is such a good feeling to be done with classes forever. For my graduation, my parents and little sisters were able to come up to Utah to see me walk at graduation and just hang out for awhile. Then, Clint and I stayed with them and some relatives at my aunt's timeshare house in Midway for a few days. It was a blast! We watched movies, played games, went shopping, and ate good food. I am starting to feel like I am on vacation!

What a Waste

I figure, all in all, I have spent over $500 needlessly over the years on pointless textbooks! Just last year I had to purchase a Nutrition Book for a class that cost over $120! We were assured that we would need the book to do well in the class, and that test material would come from it... yet, I bought the book, never opened it, and got an "A" in the course... This has happened in a half dozen of my classes, and many of Ashley's as well... the problem is that when you go to sell back such books, the response is usually, "Oh, we are not buying back THAT book, because a new addition is coming out next year..." Or, "The professor didn't like using it, so we won't be buying it back for them..." Thanks a Heap!

On a more serious note, I came across this thought recently, thought it worth sharing...

When you eat at the seafood restaurant at seaworld, is it really a "Slow Learner" on your plate?

Nathan and Erica came to visit, and it was cool to get to meet erica. We went ice skating, ate at Rumbi Island Grill and had a good time... fun fun. Nathan locked us out of our apartment, and Erica had the tools for us to get back in... It seems, they are truly meant for each other...
